After running some of the best trails in Aspen, it’s time to refuel with hearty, whole foods. Whether you’re looking for a refreshing smoothie, an organic panini, or a delicious vegan meal, our list of the best healthy food options in Aspen has you covered. The best part? All of these cafes and stores are located in the heart of downtown Aspen.
During the peak summer season, Jus Aspen has a continuous line out the door, but don’t let that deter you. Their cartoon character themed smoothies (we love the Tin Tin and the Asterix), are both delicious and packed with feel-good ingredients. Also on the menu are European inspired breakfast and lunch items such as croque monsieur, croque madame, and a wide selection of protein-packed salads.
Still feeling hungry? Treat yourself to one of their smoothie bowls (Cacao lovers will go nuts for the Calimero) topped with wildflower honey, homemade granola (that tastes like toffee), bananas and strawberries. Jus also has a wide selection of adaptogen powders and protein powders so you can make your own inspired smoothie at home.
For the widest selection of health food and delicously nutritous meals, look no farther than Spring Cafe. Here you’ll find everything from fruit packed smoothies, to protein-packed breakfast scrambles, and lunch staples made with wellness in mind.
Some of our go-to items? A Kale and broccoli breakfast scramble made with curried tofu, vegan pad thai, an avocado tempeh reuben, and a—very large—vegan, gluten free chocolate chip walnut cookie to top it off. Spring Cafe offers both indoor and outdoor seating and is a great place to grab a bite to eat after a day on the mountain.
Want to make your own healthy feast? Clark’s Market has a surprisingly great selection of gourmet health food, and it’s located right in the heart of Aspen. Here you’ll find everything from fresh organic produce, to pantry staples, to local kombucha.
They also carry some of our favorite brands like Birch Benders (for delicious pancakes), to Artisana Organics (for organic nut butters), Milkadamia Mac Nut Milk, and GT’s Kombucha. There is ample parking at Clarks and it is also located right next to the Roaring Fork Trail Head.
