Best Running Routes on North Shore Oahu
North Shore Bike Trail
The North Shore Bike Trail is a 7-mile trail stretches from Haleiwa to Kahuku and offers breathtaking views of the ocean, lush mountains, and emerald valleys. Along the way, you’ll find plenty of spots to stop and take it all in – like the iconic Kaena Point State Park or the beautiful Turtle Beach.
This trail is perfect for beginners as it is relatively flat with few hills, making it easy to navigate. The most iconic stretch of this trail is from Sharks Cove to Sunset Beach Park, shown above. On this trail you pass by the world famous Pipeline surf break.
Kealia Mountain Ridge Trail
Kealia Mountain Ridge Trail is one of the most scenic and challenging running trails in North Shore Oahu. Located near Haleiwa, this 6-mile round-trip trek takes you through lush tropical jungle and ancient Hawaiian fishponds, offering stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and Haleiwa coastline. The terrain is hilly and rocky, so come prepared with sturdy shoes and plenty of water.
At the summit of Kealia Mountain, runners can enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys. Along the way, you can also spot native Hawaiian plants like ohia lehua and a variety of wildlife like nene geese and endangered sea turtles. This trail requires some endurance but at the end it is worth every effort!
Running Trails in Haleiwa
Our favorite Haleiwa running route takes you through downtown Haleiwa, by Haleiwa Ali’i Beach Park and through Kaiaka Bay Beach Park. Start and end in Haleiwa town and enjoy a post run lunch. This route is roughly 3.77 miles with a minimal elevation gain of 45 feet.
