Running the Hudson River Greenway

If you are staying in Manhattan, and looking for an iconic NY run, this is the one. While I suggest an 8-mile run, the path can be much longer or much shorter depending on what you want. For extreme athletes, you can run the greenway to Inwood Park, where the Harlem River connects to the Hudson River. This route is 12.59 miles and has 470′ of elevation gain.

As you can tell, the possibilities are endless when running the Hudson River Greenway. There are a bunch of different paths to take when you get to the Upper West Side, offering a unique experience with each run.

Hudson River Greenway Suggested Run

This path gets busy from 6 am to 8:30 am with locals getting a pre-work jog in. Even with the crowds, the flow of traffic is usually friendly.

  • Starting just south of the Basketball courts at Harrison Street on the Hudson River Greenway, continue up the Hudson River Greenway for 4 miles.
  • Turn around once you get to Pier 96 at Hudson River Park.
  • Head back down on the Greenway until you are back at the Basketball Courts.
